What's new in Captrice - August 2025
Welcome to the August edition of the Captrice newsletter. This month was slow in terms of feature development. Apart from a few bug fixes, no new user-facing features were released. Due to personal travel, I was mostly away from my desk and without my guitar, so my practice routine suffered as well.
On the bright side, I spent more time on business development activities, such as:
Trying to reach more users by promoting the app on social media and through direct outreach
Talking to users about their pain points and reflecting on what’s on the roadmap. I’m quite happy with the current state of the app, so I want to be extra thoughtful about adding new features
Connecting with guitar teachers and music educators to get their perspectives about using Captrice for teaching and possibly partnering with them. While nothing concrete has come out of these conversations yet, many have responded with curiosity and interest, which has been encouraging.
Building software uses up a lot of your time and focus. Stepping away from it for a bit brought much needed clarity as well as some new ideas. I am excited about the refined roadmap and vision for Captrice. I plan to share more about it soon!
Tip of the month
When new users try Captrice, they usually start by importing an exercise from the library. The first thing that grabs their attention is the guitar tablature. Naturally, this gives the impression that learning how to write tabs is a prerequisite for creating your own exercises. But that’s a big misconception!
Captrice is really about practicing with a metronome to gradually and sustainably build accuracy, speed, and endurance, while the app keeps track of your progress so your practice becomes measurable. The tablature is only there as a reference, to help you remember the exercises, specially the ones you came up with yourself.
Here’s my suggestion: don’t overthink it! Create exercises from whatever tricky passages or riffs you’re working on and start practicing. Tablature can always be added later.
So that was the very short update for August. Thank you for reading and please don't hesitate to get in touch for anything at vineet@captrice.io or naikvin@gmail.com.
More updates next month!
