Today is an exciting day for me
My big news
It's truly an honor to announce that I've received a surprise no-strings-attached "Make a Wave" grant from the 3Arts Foundation. 3Arts supports artists with disabilities and this particular grant recognizes people who have started to make an impact in their communities. It feels good because it can be quite isolating charting a niche path in the already niche pursuit of music, so being recognized for persistence is motivation to keep going. Increasingly I've been feeling my job is to create spaces where both musicians and listeners can get back in touch with the good parts of being human. In today's social landscape it can be hard to see things that are worth living for in the long term, so I'm planning to use this grant and any opportunities it generates to keep pushing to create experiences that bring us back to ourselves. If you want to celebrate with me, come through to 4060 N Lincoln Ave this Thursday at 9pm. I'll be playing with Sophie Rae followed by a loose celebratory Calculated Discomfort set.
Party this Thursday
I'm performing at a new venue called Save More Lounge this Thursday. Opening the night with the Sophie Rae band (beautiful folksy singer / songwriter music) and then celebrating my award with a Calculated Discomfort set.
- Save More Lounge (4060 N Lincoln Ave)
- 9pm Sophie Rae
- 10pm Calculated Discomfort
- $5-$10 suggested donation
The Invisible Trio is back November 8th
I try to keep these emails short, but I'm pretty excited today. This is just an early heads-up that my band with Stephanie Alma and Greg Kelchner will be playing Cafe Mustache in Logan Square Monday November 8th. Our debut in September was a powerful experience, so I'm doubly excited to bring it back to my favorite long-term venue in Chicago.
- Cafe Mustache (2313 N Milwaukee Ave)
- 9pm show
- Opening set by Calculator Font (A.K.A. my friend Andy Slater)
- Vinyl jams by DJ Kevin
Have a great day,
Tommy
