The new calculated discomfort + party tickets
Hello friends!
First off, I'm very excited that we're just a little more than two weeks away from Earth-Space Balance, Calculated Discomfort's summer party.
It's shaping up to be a highly grooving night.
I've coordinated with Color Club to offer a limited number of discounted tickets. To claim one, use code earthspace when you're checking out.

The New Calculated Discomfort
As I mentioned the other week, Calculated Discomfort is making the transition from being a band to being a presenter of events and producer of recordings.
this is my working description:
Calculated Discomfort presents musical events that showcase innovative uses of rhythm, the storytelling power of instrumental composition, and the thrill of improvisation, all with an emphasis on the social nature of music. The organization also produces recordings, videos and writings that document the development of exciting ideas in these realms.
What this means is that I'm planning to throw more events as a host that highlight interesting music in my world of electronic-infused improvisation, and work to record them in the highest possible quality for cultural preservation.
You don't have to look far to find evidence of the massive struggles of the recording industry. Selling records has been an important part of artists' income for the past 100 years, but its really dried up.
However, to me, the most important thing about recordings in the long run is how they serve as a document of very specific moments in time that paint a picture of the larger world.
Bootleg recordings fill in gaps in our knowledge about the development of jazz and other styles of music, and they also give an auditory snap shot of what it felt like to be there.
We're blessed these days to have quite affordable and high quality portable recording technology. I feel that innovative things are on the horizon in my world, so I plan to shift away from a studio-centric approach with my documented music, and rather focus on capturing day-to-day moments, so we do not forget the interesting steps that take place on the way towards something greater.
Stay tuned, and I hope to catch you July 11th at Earth-Space Balance!
