Rhythm, humor and a fallen log

Hello friends!

Today I have a video for you courtacy of the 3Arts Disability Culture Leadership Initiative. In October fellow artist Kennedy Healy and I sat down in front of a video team to discuss our work and disability. Titled Rhythm and Humor as Resistance, this conversational video covers the development of disability identity, why we make our work, the importance of Chicago's disability scene, and where we imagine the movement going next. It also features some behind-the-scenes of the creation of my upcoming album The Harmony Rhythm, and a preview song in the form of the theme music sung by Stephanie Alma.

Check out Rhythm and Humor as Resistance here.

And if you enjoy that, also consider watching Stephanie and comics illustrator Bianca Xunise's discussion, which talks about how the disability scene is the punk scene.

Creative machines canceled, Fallen Log is a go

Unfortunately, the Feb. 25 performance at Experimental Sound Studio that I mentioned in the last news letter has been canceled. Hugo Flores Garcia will still be giving his talk and demonstration of his music-making software, but there won't be a band component.

However, the Prosthetic show the coming Wednesday the 28th at the Fallen Log is very much on! I'm excited to present a very danceable set with Kyle Werle on synthesizers, Victoria Boateng on djemb, Trevor Hill on woodwinds, and Stephanie Alma on percussion and vocals.

The Fallen Log is a small venue connected to Vegan pizza joint Kitchen 17. Prosthetic will kick the night off at 8pm and will be followed by the Simsons (fun wild jazz rock) and NCLB (fun wild free jazz with a rocking bent). Entrance is $12.

More info on the Fallen Log / Kitchen 17 site.
