Proudly announcing... the time to shop is now!

Hey all!

Apologies for the subject line--I couldn't help myself. For the time being, there's nothing technically for sale here (plenty of places to buy stuff this time of year )--just some old-but-good music made more accessible, an upcoming album announcement, and an end-of-year show. All the info is below. Hope you're well!

The Time to Shop is Now, available to stream

Around this time two years ago I put out a holiday mixtape for my followers on Bandcamp. I recently listened back to it and thought to myself, "Man this has aged well. I think people would dig it if they had a chance to listen."

In the spirit of sharing and mariment, The Time to Shop is Now! is now available everywhere you stream music.

The mixtape is a collage or time lapse of a very good jam session. If you dig my album Dances for Different Bodies,, think a very conversational version of that with a touch more spaciness (and some rap bars) thrown in.

It features the Winter Clearance Event, which is shorthand for a random assemblage of good friends including Trevor Hill, Lyn Rye, Sacramento Knox, Maxx McGathey, Stephanie Alma, Naydja Bruton and Karl Maher.

Winter Clearance Event December 16th

Speaking of the Winter Clearance Event, it's actually going to be a physical thing you can attend this year. I've had an informal tradition of throwing a lowkey end-of-year show in more intimate settings since 2018, and this years event will take place at the Agitator Gallery.

It'll feature a performance from Calculated Discomfort as well as some special guests TBA. Also, the gallery will have local artists selling their work, so this one will truly be a winter clearance event.

Save the date! Saturday December 16th. 6pm-10pm, with music likely to happen from 7:30-9:30. 3851 W Fullerton Ave.

The Harmony of Rhythm, coming winter 23/24

At long last, I am very stoked to announce a new project from Calculated Discomfort called The Harmony of Rhythm.

When it comes to my recorded music, I consider myself to be at least as much a storyteller as I am a musician. I really strive for my albums to go beyond their constituent parts to create something that makes you aware of the vibrations in the air and your perception of your surroundings--a sonic movie you can map your thoughts and emotions onto.

The Harmony of Rhythm peels away many of the layers that make music quantifiable as a product to deliver a sonic experience based on the rhythm of human interaction and the organic textures of drums, the voice and acoustic instruments. I've been writing here a lot about how I think rhythm is essentially just another representation of the human condition, and this project gets at that in a very approachable way. it's simultaneously my rawist and most cinematic work yet.

Inspired by science fiction novelists, audio storytellers and documentarians of the present, I am going to release this album in three parts--one chapter a month from December - February.

The official announcement is coming soon, but I wanted to let you all know first. Diving back into this music to finish post production after a little break has gotten me very hyped about music in general.

Until then, be well!

Tommy
