I hope this concert recording that's brightening my day will brighten yours
Good morning!
Stephanie Alma just shared an album (her first) and I had to pass it on. Mi Chicago is a live recording from a set we played at the Golden Dagger in September. It was one of those low-key magical nights where no one is expecting much, but everyone wants to have a good time, and as a result we play risk-taking music birthed from deep listening. Stephanie Alma absolutely soars through vocal improvisations with and without lyrics. Maxx McGathey on keys is an master of orchestration, making a perfect pairing with Stephanie. Aidan Epstein on bass, Michael McSweeney on percussion and myself on drums are in hard grooving mode, giving the set a serious bottom. We traverse R&B, cumbia, house, salsa and jazz. Major props to Marshall Towsky for giving us such a nice soundboard recording on short notice.
Stephanie and I will be doing a virtual Valentines Day concert. Get info and tickets here.
And the trio of Maxx, Aidan and myself will be playing two sets at the Whistler next Wednesday 1/26 starting at 9pm. Hope to catch you there!
Happy listening,
Tommy
