Buttondown updates from February

February 2023 updates

What’s new

Buttondown’s two big new features in February:

  • You can now send surveys to your subscribers to learn more about what their interests are, collect feedback, discuss favorite foods — pretty much anything you want!
  • You can now invite friends or colleagues to your newsletter to collaborate, analyze, and help you run your newsletter. Gone are the days of sharing passwords!

What’s coming

As we wrap up Q1 (that’s business talk for “January through March”), I want to spend my time working on having non-embarrassing answers to two pretty common questions I get from users:

  • “Why are analytics so, uh, all-over-the-place?” I’m working on what I am so creatively calling “Analytics 2.0” — a from-the-ground-up reimagining of how to track your newsletter’s growth. Read more about that here!
  • “How do I make cool share images for my newsletter without having to bust open Figma?” Buttondown will soon offer a suite of pretty (or at least I think they’re pretty) templates for your subscribe and archive pages. Read more about that here!

An exhortation to engage with us on various social media platforms

  • Did you know Buttondown is on Mastodon? Please follow us! (If you’re looking for a nice iOS client — I recommend Ivory.)
  • If you’re a Discord user (Discordian? Discorder?), join Buttondown’s official Discord where you can get sneak peeks into upcoming features, chat with other users, and more!

As always…

Buttondown owes its existence to you, dear reader. I work on the things that make sense because enough users tell me about them; Buttondown has grown not because of any VC-subsidized marketing blitz but because people like it enough to tell other people to give it a shot.

If you think there’s something that needs to be improved — or, even better, if there’s just something you wish was improved — reply to this email because I want to hear more!

What are you most interested in seeing Buttondown support next month?

  • Support for welcome/drip sequences
  • Prettier and more customizable archive/subscribe pages
  • A subscriber referral program
  • None of the above
