The Perineum & Prostate: What they are and why you should care
The Prostate
The prostate is a walnut-sized gland located between your balls and your butt, right under your bladder. It’s located about two inches inside the rectum. The prostate's primary function is to produce semen.
The prostate contains thousands of nerve endings, making it the the primary erogenous zone for men and earning its nickname as the “male G-spot”. For many men, stimulating the prostate can create a full-body orgasm that is much more intense and pleasurable than the conventional penile orgasm.
Some men have even nicknamed prostate orgasms the “Super- O” (Levin, 2017) or super orgasm; “a non-ejaculatory orgasm described to be completely different (full body, no refractory period) and orders of magnitude more powerful than a penile orgasm. It's often described as the height of physical pleasure”.
Pretty good sales pitch. Certainly got my attention. But, to be clear, this isn’t something you would experience your first time exploring the area. Like anything worthwhile in life it takes time and practice.
The Perineum
The Perineum is the area of skin between your balls and your butt- otherwise known as the taint, gooch, or sandbar. Your prostate is above your perineum. You can stimulate the prostate externally, by massaging or otherwise stimulating your perineum. This is a great option for those who are exploring the area for the first time and are looking for an option that doesn’t require any penetration.
This is precisely what we created The Butter Personal Massager to do. The shape and vibration settings of The Personal Massager provide more intense stimulation to the perineum, which increases blood flow to the pelvic region, leading to stronger erections, more powerful orgasms, and an increased overall sense of pleasure. Don’t just take it from us .
So you want to dip your toes in. Here’s how to do it
The best policy is to take things slow. Start first by touching, applying pressure to, or massaging the perineum. As mentioned above, this will allow you to start to stimulate the prostate externally and see how it feels.
Try different things- some people prefer light touch, while others prefer a deeper form of pressure with a slight rubbing motion. You can just focus on your perineum or you can add other forms of stimulation like penis stroking. If you’re enjoying it, and are looking for more intense stimulation, try incorporating The Butter Personal Massager by holding it against your perineum. This will increase the sensation and overall pleasure.
If you decide you want to take the next step and start exploring the prostate internally, you should first make sure your fingers and your butthole are clean, no hangnails, dirty tips etc. and its best to try venturing to this area post shower. If you’re exploring this area for the first time, we would recommend using your fingers, or a massager specifically designed for the prostate.
You’re going to want to start with lubricant. No such thing as too much in this case. Start by putting some lube on your fingers and carefully massaging the outside of the anus, then gradually move to insertion. The prostate is about 2 inches inside your butt, and to find it, your fingers should be pointing up (toward the belly button). Try to curl them a little bit, like you’re making the universal signal for “come here.” The prostate gland will feel like a small bump similar in size and shape to a walnut. Once you’ve found it, you can apply pressure and start massaging your prostate gland. Try different methods of massaging or otherwise stimulating the prostate to find out what works best for you.
This is a very high level introduction to prostate stimulation and the area as a whole. There were many things we didn’t cover, such as exploring the area with a partner, although many of the same practices apply. If you would like to learn more about different techniques for stimulating the prostate, or how to maximize pleasure from the area, one of the best resources is the subreddit r/prosateplay.
Go forth and spread the good word. Or should we say gooch word (haha).
