Make a plan to make sure your vote counts
Greetings Fellow Conformists.
While many things in the world are out of our control, one thing you can do is vote in the upcoming election. It is vital that Conformists contribute to the selection of our nation’s next President.
Even though America’s electoral system is rigged against the will of the people through gerrymandering, voter suppression, and the Electoral College, amassing an indisputable lead in the popular vote may make it more challenging for Trump to attempt anything nefarious if he loses, or claim undisputed support for his policies and leadership should he win.
Your Safe Voting Plan Checklist
Plan ahead to make sure you can safely cast your vote. Your State and County are good sources of voting information.
- Are you registered to vote?
- Have you moved recently and need to update your address?
- If you’re not in one of the states with full vote-by-mail, are you able to request an absentee ballot? Make sure you don’t miss the deadline!
- If you are voting by mail, are there places you can drop off your ballot to avoid going through the mail? If drop boxes are available, make use of them – early, to avoid waiting in an Election Day line. Look up a drop box that is convenient for you to use.
- If you are mailing your ballot, mark back two weeks from the election on your calendar and ensure you have mailed your ballot by then. Set a reminder on your phone. Don’t let it get disqualified for not arriving on time.
- If you cannot get an absentee ballot, are you able to vote in advance? Where?
- If you must vote in person, make a plan for what time and where you will go. Set an appointment in your phone.
- Look up your polling place in advance. How can you get there safely? Is there parking if you’ll be driving?
- Do you need to take time off work?
- Do you need to bring ID?
After this election, we will need to reckon with our voting system. If we wish to continue calling ourselves a democracy, we must ensure that elections are safe, fair, and accessible to all.
