Change is possible. Protests do make a difference.

Greetings, fellow Conformists.

During June, Americans turned their focus to protesting police brutality against Black people, and calling for changes to our inherently racist justice system. The Bureau of Conformity was founded to foster societal change, and we stand with the protestors and activists working for change.

Did you know that researchers say it takes only 3.5% of the population protesting peacefully to bring about massive societal changes?

Change, especially on the scale that it is needed, will take time. Do not give up hope if it does not happen immediately (click through to see full graphic).

Congratulations to our first Enforcer Wasps

Our first three Conformists have been inducted as Enforcer Wasps. Congratulations to Conformists #19-840-0005, -0008, and -0011. Your leadership will help us build a better society.

Registered Conformists become Enforcer Wasps when they earn five points. They receive a certificate of recognition as well as our special chrome Enforcer Wasp sticker.

Referring someone to become a Conformist is just one way to earn points - see all the options for earning points.

July Conformist point: Read a book by a Black author

While we work on the long fight of replacing racist systems, one small thing we can do right away is support the work of individual Black people.

This month, registered Conformists can earn a point for reading a book by a Black author. Any book, not just non-fiction. Cookbook, novel, non-fiction, poetry, anything. Simply email support@bureauofconformity.us with the subject line “Diverse reading point” and include your name or Conformist number in the body of the email. If you liked the book, we’d appreciate the recommendation as well.

For consideration, here are three books written by Black authors, with Black protagonists, that I enjoyed:

  • Non-fiction graphic novel “March” by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin and Nate Powell (I highly recommend all three volumes)
  • Science fiction novel “Wild Seed” by Octavia E. Butler
  • Civil War-era romance novel “An Extraordinary Union” by Alyssa Cole

To be clear, I believe it’s important to read diverse books and #OwnVoices authors all the time - earning a point is simply an added bonus for something you’ll enjoy anyway.

Black lives matter.

Yours in Conformity,

Drake Starling
Director, Bureau of Conformity
