Code is cheap now. Time to open source some stuff.

Hey,

Welcome to the Boring but Useful newsletter. I'll use this to share product updates, behind-the-scenes context, and the occasional broader thought on tools that I build and use everyday.

This issue: Agentic coding has reignited my love for open source.

I've been writing code for the last 15+ years. It’s been a great journey; learning my way through consulting, pet projects and occasionally hitting my head against the wall trying to get on top of new trends and technologies.

Along the way there have been many ideas, libraries and dorky tools that remained either only used internally with my friends and business partners or simply not built at all. At the end of the day, making ends meet and avoiding the wooshing sound of deadlines passing by was the top priority.

Now in the era of agentic coding, code has become cheap. It's a great time in history to be an ‘idea person’. Adding fuel to the fire, delegating most of the coding to an agent had a curious impact on the tools I'm constantly building for myself: I feel no apprehension or shame about open sourcing them.

So now, aflame with motivation and in a time of my life where I have the least free time I've ever had, I say: why the hell not?

Cheers,
Max.
