May The Fourth (Draft) Be With You!

Hello! Happy May!
As a coach this past month, I supported writers with lab application essays and provided coverage and developmental coaching on half-hour pilots. How can I help you in May?
A reminder that I'm offering 10% off the following services to all newsletter subscribers:
Enter the coupon code BOLD10. The coupon expires on May 15, 2024, but you can schedule the session for any time.
As a writer, I was fortunate to attend the CineStory TV Retreat as a TV Comedy Scholarship Winner last week. It was a stimulating four days that was both affirming and challenging. Here are a few golden nuggets I walked away with:
Remember, a pilot doesn’t only set up the world of your show; it’s also a sample episode of your series.
How can you launch your story even earlier in the script?
Whether your show is half-hour or one-hour, always think of your story in three acts.
Write your pitch with the pilot so you know where your series will go.
Contraction is course correcting. It’s uncomfortable, but it’s not forever.
Know what you love and write that.
A logline doesn’t need to say everything. It needs to make us feel something.
Every new project is a new road paved.
