Day 87 - titanium toms
Jamie here, I didn’t get off the boat today. I pottered around doing some boat jobs. Made bread (we’ve already polished off one loaf hehe) As I was cleaning bluebird’s hull I noticed a grouper on the bottom of the sea floor watching me. I thought hey you we want you for dinner. I exchanged my boat cleaning equipment with my speargun and dove down and got it. They never really swim away from you so it’s not dissimilar to a barrel / fish scenario. I filleted it and dropped the carcass off the back of the boat for the sharks. Once again exchanged shooting stuff for cleaning stuff. Started scrubbing away and couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the carcass still on the sea floor beneath me. Usually the sharks clean them up in seconds. No sharks at this anchorage it seems?? Very strange. Next I looked closer at the carcass and what do I see? Another grouper feeding on the flesh! Once again I swapped my equipment out and got this one too. Have you ever laid a booby trap without meaning to? Today I did. Today I lost monopoly deals too many times. A real rollercoaster today.
Ellen here, Sunrise-moonset row dinghy shore stroll, coffee and low-tide shellfish reef forage, monster afternoon squall, sunset-moonrise, shall we muster to check the reef for full-moon lobster, or sleep early to rise for dawn colors again?
Q here Stayed on the boat today as well. Had a chill day reading, working on my tan line and such, with a wee bit of excitement early afternoon when we had a minor squall, hovering between 30-40knots and lasted 2-3 hours. Really got to test the anchor holding today. Lobster? We’ll see
Naomi here, Today we spent all day making dinner, what with collecting the shellfish in the morning, much coconut work , and the grouper shooting and of course cleaning and filleting. I didn’t check on the noddys to see if they survived the night vs. The crabs; I’m sure they must of.
Megan here. Gosh I hasn’t thought about checking on the noddy babies, maybe we can do that tomorrow. We had a dream of creating a fish coconut curry this morning. Jamie caught the fish and I prepared the coconuts - which entailed husking FIVE coconuts (I’ve really refined my technique), cracking them open, grating out the pulp, and squeezing out the milk. Ellen and Qwalen brought us so many beautiful veggies it ended up as more of a thick stew than a curry but still pretty good. Might have to retry the traditional coconut curry though. Maybe with tinned coconut milk.
I also was reflecting today while I was bailing the dinghy out with a coconut shell that so far nothing makes me feel quite as salty and sailory as bailing out the dinghy. And at this point of done a number of sailory things. But bailing really does it every time. It has a certain atmosphere.
Anyway we have finished watching Harry Potter.... 4 I think? Time for bed. xoxo
