day 156: strangers in the night
Miriam: Hmmm, today. A bit of a liminal one for me as I went without contacts as I have a little eye irritation to heal (and broke my glasses right before this trip, whoops!). As a near sighted person, days like this, when anything further than 10’ away becomes soft edged and mysterious, foster an introspective, absent minded, softened experience of self. So I was so content to give Matt a massage and then receive a massage from Jamie. He took my suggestions gracefully and has a bright future as a masseuse if he gets tired of hunting goats. A nap was the inevitable next step, followed by popcorn. We rallied for the beach bonfire and managed to not pack a single headlamp between the four of us. This was possibly the finest sand ever and my choice to play hard with Abel and let his touch me with his completely soaked sand crusted little body was the beginning of the end; I imagine I will be finding sand in my scalp and bed and everywhere really for many more days. But it was quite sweet to tell him stories by the fire and receive the insistent instruction, as he was whisked back to Pania well past his bedtime, that I was to make a hollow in the sand and sleep there on the beach. Advice I did not take but I do appreciate the sentiment. Trying to rid myself of sand before going down below I had a little night swim and delighted at the bioluminescence lit by my flailing limbs. Such beauty and joy in the star sparked play until I startled myself into thinking the cloud of faint glow beneath me was a monster of the deep. Turns out it was my legs.
Jamie: ‘‘twas a quiet morning on bluebird some music and massages were had. In the evening we had a bonfire with our friends and young Abel experienced his first toasted marshmallow. From the look of glee on his face it is the start of a long and beautiful relationship. On another note, hope everybody at home is voting for bird of the year. Thank you Megan for the reminder. Go rock wren. WOD: torrid. Torrid - tense, passionate, somewhat scandalous Used in a senny: I just bought a new dress, but it didn’t last long because I torrid :(
Matt: strangers in the night, exchanging glances. Wondering in the night, what were the chances, these cruisers were alright… poor, evidently - as the shuffling crew of torch bearing resort types alerted the guards upon their return. Advocating for the New Zealand dab chick
Naomi here, jamie Magnus and I paddled into shore and “didn’t” get ice creams ;) then later went back in to shore later to pick up a massive bag of papaya and a massive bag of cassava that we bought off the locals then off to our new anchorage for a fire on the beach :) Dutch damper, marshmallows, dhal, campfire tinfoil veggies and popcorn! Then Miriam invited EVERYONE (there are 6 and a half aboard Pania) over for a dance party on bluebird in the morning :) :) :)
