day 149: voldemorts demise

Jamie here, This morning we left our musket cove anchorage and cruised to waya island. Despite having the fishing lure out amongst feeding fish we still didn’t catch any… Matt did an epic effort to steer the boat the entire way. We got a lot of sun. I trimmed my wild boy beard so now I’m clean and fresh from the neck up. At the other end of my body things are not going so good. My reef scratches are beginning to fester and bloom despite slapping copious amounts of iodine on it. I should have listened to Steve the paramedic and scrubbed them when I first received them. Hopefully time and more iodine will see me through and I can keep my legs. WOD: ailment. Ailment - a boo boo or sickness. Used in a senny: barkeep: “I had a batch of ailment for Glastonbury, but the delivery driver took a wrong turn, the beer ended up in York.

Miriam here, I feel so grateful to be out of the crowded anchorage and resort inundated island of Musket Cove. It was a beautiful place and so fun to be social and make friends with other cruisers but it feels so much more spacious to be the only boat anchored in a picturesque bay next to a sliver of beach below thick jungle and high spires of rock. We arrived at Waya Island late in the afternoon to the sounds of birdsong and relaxed into the evening, listening to the villagers play rugby and then break into song together as sunset faded. Tomorrow we will bring sevu sevu to the chief and then we will be able to explore this lovely place.

Today was spa day as we sailed and then motored over through the lightest of winds. Matt held it down while Naomi and I made sugar wax and patchily ripped out our leg hair. We then traded clipper cuts; I cleaned up her do and she gave me an undercut which feels so much better than the previous mass of hair I was working with. Thick, longish hair and constant saltwater makes for a challenging mess. I then gave her a massage which felt great to me as an opportunity to stay in practice and be of support. I think she might have enjoyed it too.

Matt: So far the birds seem intent on keeping their feathers, leaving my paper fedora looking somewhat plain and poorly. Had the bright idea several days ago to use flowers instead but they either blow away or wilt so the evening found me fashioning an origami cherry blossom; rather chic for now
