Newsletters as community care
Hi there.
One of my favorite things about newsletters is being able to show up for lots of people, whether they support my work financially or not.
If you think about your newsletter as a tiny bit of community care rather than a way to get someone to buy something, it becomes a lot easier to write.
Letting people know about resources (links, events, recipes, books, people) that enrich their lives, that offer help, healing or comedic relief - this a service.
Sending out a piece of writing that puts a smile on someone’s face or resonates in such a way that someone reads it and says, “Oh! Exactly!” - this is also a service.
Showing up regularly with the intention of helping, making your care visible, is a healing practice.
When you do this, you’re making small connections, drawing lines between people, places, and communities. These are the connections that can make all the difference in the end.
If you’ve been feeling stuck with your newsletter, think about your next issue as a little drop of community care sent out into the world. How can you make things just a tiny bit better for your readers? I hope it helps.
Keep writing,
Camille
