January's Notable Quote for Newsletter Writers
Hi there.
Happy end of January.
In a bit of personal news, my book Write Better Newsletters will be published on Thursday (!). If you’d like a copy, you should be able to order it most places that books are available. eBooks can be preordered, paperbacks will be available on Thursday.
Thank you for your support in writing the book. Whether you’ve been a beta reader, attended my Newsletter Lab, or have simply been here reading this newsletter, I couldn’t have done it without you 💚
This month’s notable quote comes from Katherine May’s excellent book, Wintering, which I mentioned a few weeks ago in the post about robins:
Doing those deeply unfashionable things - slowing down, letting your spare time expand, getting enough sleep, resting - is a radical act now, but it is essential. This is a crossroads we all know, a moment when you need to shed a skin. If you do, you’ll expose all those painful nerve endings and feel so raw that you’ll need to take care of yourself for a while. If you don’t, then that skin will harden around you.
Katherine May, in Wintering
I wanted to share this for a few reasons:
1) If you are feeling tender due to shedding a skin recently, consider sending out a re-run newsletter rather than writing a fresh one to give yourself a bit of a break. Sending newsletters from the heart can be very vulnerable (although it doesn’t have to be! More on that next month), and it’s okay if you’re not up for it right now.
2) What do you think about wintering as described above? Are these things you’d encourage your readers to consider? If so, feel free to share your thoughts on wintering, slowing down, and/or the importance of rest in your next newsletter.
Keep writing.
Camille
P.S. Our next co-writing/peer feedback session will be Thursday, Feb 9 from 12-1:30 pm ET. During co-writing, you’ll spend an hour working independently on your next newsletter draft, followed by 30 minutes of optional peer review. To join us for co-writing, you can upgrade to the premium version of this newsletter.

Hi. I’m Camille Freeman.
I’m an herbalist, nutritionist, and educator. I’ve build my business largely with the help of my (other) newsletter. I write this newsletter to support other newsletter writers, because I know how much of a difference it makes and how hard it can be to keep writing. Remember: write regularly, sound like yourself, and focus on sending things that matter to your readers. If you haven’t already, please check out my book: Write Better Newsletters.
