Hundred Days of Happiness - Week Seven
Celebrations & Vacations
Hard to believe that this project is halfway done! I do hope to continue on though. I am trying my best to figure out how to be online without succumbing to the “tech bros”. I just read that Meta confirmed that they will have AI bot accounts - ugh. I am seriously considering stopping posting to Instagram and Facebook and just posting on BlueSky and my weekly write ups here in SubStack, which is also a problematic platform as well. But I like to stay in contact with friends and my time is limited so one on one time is very hard to come by. Definitely first-world problems here, but trying to stay connected and develop community. Luckily, this week has been full of meetups with friends and family.

We celebrated the holidays early with friends as we are all doing other things for Christmas day itself. It was very nice to be together, eat good food and have a low key get together. Later that evening I wanted to watch a Christmas Movie and so we watched “It’s a Wonderful Life” as a family and once again, the tears flowed. So many parallels to current events and the triumph of kindness and community over avarice and corruption. It is possible, even if difficult.

Spent the evening in Utrecht with the family and got to see the cool light show on the DomToren. So beautiful! I took this video so you can see the way the pictures change and hear the 1/2 hour bell. So pretty.

Spent the day wrapping up the final loose ends at work and was super focused on making it to Christmas morning. Spent the time after David was asleep wrapping up the stocking stuffers and gifts. I completely forgot that it was our anniversary as well on Christmas Eve. Luckily I have a wonderful partner who did not forget. Happy 12 years my love! 😍😍 Happy Christmas Eve to everyone. Hope you all have a great holiday.

We wish you a lovely Christmas Holiday! Pica sort of tolerated being Santa. 🤣 We had a long but really nice day. We opened stockings and presents in the morning and then drove to Den Bosch to have lunch with friends and enjoy the afternoon and evening together. Gorgeous day in Valencia. The sun blessed us with several appearances throughout the day. Lunch was an incredible “half” sandwich each which was still about 25 cm (around a foot) long. There were other guests who did eat a whole sandwich with the ironic name “bocadillo Valenciano” (Valencian morsel) Then we went to a plaza to burn off some of that energy before heading to a big shopping mall to watch Sonic 3 in the afternoon with two very happy boys who spent the day getting to know each other and talking about their favorite games, books and movies. We finished the evening with delicious sushi. What a full and lovely day. #holidays #vacation #architecture #sunlight

We spent the day with Tia Mecha exploring Valencia. We started off at the beach - playing in the sand by the Mediterranean Sea. The beaches here are straight and the waves are pretty calm, a stark difference from the raw power of the Pacific or Atlantic Oceans which carves up the shorelines. After a couple of hours getting our quota of rest and Vitamin D, we made our way to the Science Museum which has some interesting exhibits. The real star of the whole show is the building itself "Ciudad de las Artes y de las Ciencias". Designed by the same architect who made "Puente de la Mujer" in Buenos Aires Santiago Calatrava, it's an approachable brutalist modern piece of art. I just learned it's style is called "Neo-futurism". After all that walking and thinking, we needed reinforcements, so we went to a delicious Argentine cafe and had some good coffee, pastries and Argentine ice cream for one young boy. It's funny to be coming to Spain to get Argentine food, but there are so many Argentine immigrants here, they do really well. For dinner we went to an Argentine parilla the guys discovered close to where we are staying and while it wasn't super incredible, it was very authentic, what you would get in a typical parilla de barrio in Buenos Aires. They even had a metegol (foosball) to play before the food arrived. DH is one happy man.
Wishing everyone a lovely “in-between week” and a Happy and Peaceful 2025.
