Happy Days – Week TwentySeven

Spring is here in all its beauty - so many flowers and babies of all stripes.

I realized in my last write up, it’s been six months - twenty six weeks of writing. I’m not usually this consistent with this stuff - makes me pretty happy in and of itself.

Mid-May was very full with work - working on details of a large project for the foundation, so a lot of time spent at my desk, but I managed to find some beauty in the odd moments of life. Just gotta look! 😀 📷

May 12 – Day 184

A red poppy with a blue cornflower and some purple flowers stand tall in a field of lots of green grass
Poppies and cornflowers in the tall grass – Day 184

There hasn’t been as many red poppies in the fields this year as previous, so seeing one makes me super happy. It think that is because it has been quite dry this spring. They of course make me think of the remembrance poppies worn by the British and members of the Commonwealth to remember veterans of wars past. It always confused me because Remembrance Sunday is in November and poppies bloom in the spring.

May 13 – Day 185

A family of Canada geese stand to attention while five goslings sit in the grass.
Goslings out and about at our son’s schoolyard – Day 185

It’s definitely spring and there are many many babies out. This family was just one of many hanging out on the playing fields in front of the neighborhood school.

May 14 – Day 186

A building that is basically two walls and curved roof sits on a concrete platform in the middle of a park with trees and grass. The building is painted red with interesting patterns. Seems more of a shelter than anything else.
The Wood Chapel in MaximPark – Day 186

Wednesday morning I led a two hour walk in MaximaPark with a group of International women. It was nice to get out there and my right back tendon seems to be finally getting somewhat better. Yay. This “chapel” was along the route and we stopped to take it in.

May 15 – Day 187

An old chapel-like building is in the background in front of a canal. The street is lined with old Amsterdam houses. In front of the canal there are bikes parked alongside the barrier and a woman faces the canal organizing her things in the front of her bike.
Amsterdam scene – Day 187

I went to Amsterdam for work and got concrete steps to a project largely in motion and I snapped this on the tram back to the train station after my meeting. Don’t know what the building is, but it was pretty and it was a pretty day. There are many converted churches in the Netherlands because there are fewer and fewer people who actively practice religion and they repurpose the buildings. A friend lives in a large church in Utrecht that was converted into apartment buildings.

May 16 – Day 188

Three women face the camera. They are sitting in a car preparing to take off. Two women in the front and a woman leaning forward in the back seat.
Road Trip! – Day 188

I drove friends down to the province of “Limburg” for a women’s weekend away and this was our “we’re off!” photo for the rest of the group as we started the road trip on Friday afternoon. It should have taken two hours, but because of traffic and failed stops at various petrol stations to try and buy ice we took three hours.

May 17 – Day 189

Twilight over a lake. Chairs, umbrellas and bike parking are in silhouette in the foreground and trees in the background.
The evening view by the lake – Day 189

There were 17 women in a large house in a vacation rental park. It was very strange, but we had fun. All these houses were built for vacations, so they were soul-less but nicely tricked out. It felt like walking around the “Truman Show” movie. We all had fun though and took turns doing our chores so that we all had a great time. We chatted, played board games, took walks, wore “beauty” face masks, drank champers, watched Eurovision and ate yummy food together. It was really nice and amazing to all be away from our familial responsibilities for a bit.

May 18 – Day 190

White elderflower blooms cover a tall bush besides a walking path. In the distance is a road parallel to the path, houses line the road and a lone bicyclist comes up the road.
Elderflower in bloom – Day 190

Sunday afternoon I went to a meetup of Democrats Abroad in Utrecht center to thank the volunteers. It was nice to meet other people in that group and connect in person after chatting and organizing online in various groups. On the way back home I saw these large elderberry flower bushes and had to snap this photo. Friends and family make elderflower syrup in May and it’s lovely added to drinks throughout the year, but especially in the summer months with ice.

Claude was this year’s entry for the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest. Much less drama this year and it’s a pretty song. Didn’t win, but it was a good entry – enjoy.
