Happy Days – 2026 – Week 9
Beautiful start to the spring in late February as the crocuses bloom.
That last week in February was book-ended by returning from London and a quick work trip to Berlin and back. It’s nice to be back home though. :)
Feb 23 – Day 53

After the relaxing spa on Sunday, I fell asleep super early on Sunday night and slept the longest I have in a long time. Try as I might, it’s rare that I get more than seven hours of sleep in a night. This felt amazing.

We at the Internet Archive Europe had a presentation about “use cases of the Wayback Machine” and because of the expertise of a friend we were able to bring the presentation online in the moment and later upload the recording to archive.org It was fascinating to see how “regular” people use the Wayback Machine to verify potential employers’ history, check out their competition, and verify claims.
Feb 25 – Day 55
A beautiful spring day in late February and took a morning walk with a friend in MaximaPark.

That evening some board members of IWCU had a lovely dinner and played games together for some fun social bonding instead of all the work we do together. We had a lovely meal at an Italian restaurant and then we went nextdoor to Ozebi, the place that Santi and I have gone a fair number of times and played shuffleboard. We were four women total and were told the rules by the waitress who gave us our drinks. She explained that if you put the puck on the ledge of the four point area without going off, you get five points. We managed to do that once! Very exciting. :)

Feb 26 – Day 56

Thursday, I went to Amsterdam for an in person meet up and had a good meeting with a colleague. I worked all day at HQ and then that afternoon going back home, the light and shadow play was so pretty at the train station, I had to stop and take some photos.
Feb 27 – Day 57
De Katnarise Eilanden - a play on words of the Canary Islands in Dutch. This Island school project was made by David and was shaped and made for cats. I wasn’t going to be around when most parents could come and see the finished project, so I came to school early on Friday morning to see David’s work.

I took an early afternoon plane to Berlin for work.
I was almost done with the hat and put it on my head and it was so big that it was unwearable as it fell down and covered my face instead of staying on the top of my head. As this was the first time I had ever followed a pattern, I didn’t really know what I was doing. And so, I spent the airplane ride from Amsterdam to Berlin undoing all the work and starting again with a smaller amount of stitches in the round.
Feb 28 – Day 58
I started my morning with breakfast at the hotel having blueberry oatmeal and quinoa and it was soooo purple and the touch of mint was beautiful.

I went to Berlin for work as Saturday was an “unconference” at C-base - a hacker space that is organized as a space station and that holds various types of events. DWeb Camp will happen this summer outside of Berlin, instead of California and we gathered to start planning the various components. It was an intense day starting at 10 am and going until 11 pm (and I left early!). But, it was great to meet a lot of people who can help make it an interesting and productive gathering this summer.
Mar 1 – Day 59
Throughout Saturday I did a lot of listening to people and so took advantage and made much more progress on my hat. It was a lot easier the second time around, especially since it was smaller, so less stitches.

I took a Sunday morning flight and got back to Amsterdam in the early afternoon. Once again, nice to be back home in the Netherlands.

I was sent a beautiful set of photos of Bolinas including this lovely one of my Mum walking along the beach. I know exactly how this scene sounds, smells and feels like and makes me smile with nostalgia and contentment.

Santi sent this video out to a group of Argentines in Utrecht for the first day of spring and I wanted to share.
