You know, it’s rare for me to look at a blank “page” on a computer screen and not know where to start, but that’s where I am this week.
The past few weeks, you’ve let me indulge my fears with relation to the Coronavirus and what it all could mean, and this week, we’re seeing exactly what it means.
Pretty much every sport has suspended play. Movie theaters are open, but holding at 50%, and I’d guess folks probably don’t want to actually go to them. (Coming off of two back-to-back rounds of bronchitis, I sure don’t). The big movie releases, postponed. School, closed for the month. Television and movie production, ended. Concerts, on hold. Grocery stores are filled with people trying to make do, and people in the travel and service industries are just left asking what to do.
And I’m no different. I’d love for this newsletter to be something new and different in your inbox, but unfortunately, pretty much everywhere you turned, someone was writing about this virus, its ramifications, different countries responses (or the lack thereof), and trying to address the grey cloud which is simply: “What’s next?”
Fact is, we don’t know. We couldn’t know. Two weeks from now, life may be normal. Two weeks from now, we may be looking at two more weeks of “social distancing” and “self isolation”. If we get months into this, we could be asking bigger questions of us all.
But as it stands, I know this: people can do great things. When adversity comes, the good side of humanity outshines the bastards. We may be completely changed after this, but we will make sure we’re as best as we can be when we arrive on the other side.
Hug your loved ones, gang. Hold them tight. And I’ll write to you again when it all makes sense. Maybe next week, maybe before then. But just keep moving forward.
