So Desensitized 2025
Plans for the new year
Happy new year, all!
I have a lot of plans for So Desensitized this year, and will do my best to make sure all of them are successful, but the rest of my life is also looking very busy for the foreseeable future, so we’ll see how that goes.
The plans are as follows:
New series! Starts Jan. 17
This series will be called “Fearmongering” and will be about the historical and societal importance of horror media. It will be a four to five part series, because there’s a lot of movies y’all. It is timed the way it is because, as I’m sure you all know, this most recent president elect won on a campaign of fear, and I want to examine fear as a more general phenomenon using the connections there are between historically scary times and the media that was popular/groundbreaking at the time, which is usually horror. This one’s gonna be a beast, but won’t come out anywhere near as frequently as the Spooky Season Spooktacular. It’ll be out every week at most, but more likely it’ll come out on the normal every other week schedule.
One year anniversary! April 30
So Desensitized turns one on April 30th, with the one year anniversary of my very first post! (Psycho) I’ll be republishing it with some edits and a little extra bling. I’ll also be turning on paid subscriptions! This means that all subscribers that have pledged money will automatically become paid subscribers (thank you all!), and everyone else will have the option to do so as well. Paid subscribers will get exclusive content once a month, like behind-the-scenes looks at my outlining notebook (it’s an absolute mess, especially the Spooky Season Spooktacular), fake blood recipes and use guides, short horror stories and/or films made by me and maybe my friends, etc. Please consider pledging your support, or becoming a paid subscriber once you have that option!
Spooky Season Spooktacular 2: Electric Boogaloo! October
It’s baaaaack! Following the success of the first year of this event, So Desensitized will be having its second Spooky Season Spooktacular in October of this year! Like last year, this event will commence on October 1st, and end October 31st. I haven’t yet decided if I’ll do two posts a week again like last year, or if I’ll tone it down a little because that was really hard. We’ll see what my schedule looks like. Either way, there will be a theme just like last year’s Universal Monsters, the entirety of which can be found here. There was a little poll of sorts in the wrap-up/reflection post for the 2024 season, and there will be a more official poll for this year’s theme closer to October. Hope y’all are as excited as I am!
Holiday Posts! Various holidays
This year I’ll also be watching movies that correspond to upcoming holidays! My Bloody Valentine for Valentine’s Day, Leprechaun for St. Patrick’s Day, etc. It’ll be a good time.
Gateway Horror! Intermittantly
Throughout the year I’ll also be posting about what is called “gateway horror”! This is horror like Gravity Falls, Gremlins, and Coraline, that provides a safe, not quite as scary, for kids to experience the horror genre without being absolutely scarred for life. I’ll be writing posts about these pieces of media and their importance, and occasionally adding posts about books or movies that scared me, in the specific, as a kid. Like The Gruffalo. I’ve done one of these already, about The Nightmare Before Christmas, which you should check out!
Those are all the special plans I have for this year that I can think of! Other than the things listed above, business as usual should pretty much continue here at So Desensitized this year, with the standard every other week posts about movies “Kids These Days” don’t understand. Stay tuned for Fearmongering: Part 1 on Jan. 13th!
Happy reading, and stay spooky!
