Happy Spring from Black Python Devs!
It's a wonderful time of the year for Black Python Devs!
BPD Discord Reaches 1000 members
Black Python Devs primarily communicates daily in our Discord. I'm happy to announce that the discord has reached 1000 members. That is 1000 people who believe that we can help extend the Python community into Black communities to inspire and work with the next generation of Pythonistas.
BPD supporting the PyTexas Foundation and PyHo
We're proud to once again sponsor the PyTexas Foundation. Texas is home to many Historically Black Colleges and Universities as well as many large companies with hiring pipelines Pythonistas can enter.
I've especially had wonderful conversations with amazing Black Developers around Houston, Texas. We believe we can best support communities when we extend their reach. This year's sponsorship of the PyTexas Foundation this year aims to provide support for both the PyTexas Conference, as well as supporting the PyHou User Group It is our hope that PyHou can use these resources to actively connect with communities and schools with Black developers. We're happy to help however we can.
Jay Miller Keynoting PyTexas
Separately, we're happy to announce that Black Python Devs Founder and Global Executor, Jay Miller will be keynoting at this year's PyTexas! This is Jay's second time speaking at the event.
I'm happy to have the honor of providing a Keynote for PyTexas, in it I hope to share many learnings that I've developed as a Pythonista, especially in the last 2 years with Black Python Devs.
PyTexas will take place this weekend. You can attend in-person or virtually. Learn more at https://pytexas.org/2025.
BPD at PyCon US
Once again, we're happy to announce that we'll have a booth in community row at PyCon US. As is tradition plan to have a Black Python Devs open space as well as a chop-it-up session. These events are a wonderful experience that many have enjoyed participating in. We hope you'll come show your love and support for us at the booth!
Regional Executors Making a Big Splash in their regions
It's been 4 months since the announcement of regional executors! Aside from helping the community run more efficiently than ever, the team has been fully engaged. Our executors Laz and Afi have been seen around the US, Africa, and Europe spreading awareness of BPD as a community and growing support in areas.
Our Vice-Executors are no slouches either. Keanya, our US Vice Executor, is serving as the chair for DjangoCon US and has connected with affinity groups in the Chicago area! Nuel, our Africa Vice Executor, just wrapped up a workshop in Enugu, Nigeria.
Online User Groups
In trying to consolidate efforts we've starting hosting a monthly meetup in the discord. We've had some excellent presentations on AI, IoT and Sustainability, new python projects, and Jay gave a 2 HOUR CRASH COURSE ON TERRAFORM 😮.
More events are happening regularly in the discord so make sure you're in there hanging out!
A message of Unity
At the present time we face challenges around the world. From geopolitical struggles in countries around the world, to countries facing economic downturns and natural disasters. Our heart goes out to all the communities around the world that not only BPD represent but communities we stand in support of as well.
In this day and age we know that much of the world is reacting to hatred and a sense of self-preservation. If we don't say it enough, the goal of Black Python Devs is to extend a sense of community and belonging in Python into communities of Black and Colo(u)red folks around the globe. This benefits all people but importantly those in places we live and thrive equally.
