Welcome to the Miscellaneous Materials Reading Club MM037 (Season 4 issue 6)
Current daily average CO2 PPM: 423 ppm

Miscellaneous Materials are collected imperfectly. A reflection of whatever is interesting to me at the time. What is in this collection? What on earth was I doing or thinking about as I collected these things?
You might be asking yourself: wait!? where did MM036 go? Well, I’m not sure, but it’s Arena channel was pretty empty, I uploaded the few PDFs I had on my computer dedicated to MM036, but otherwise it has just been absorbed into MM037.
This was definitely a part of 2021’s summer and fall when, basically, I didn’t do much other than a) drive around the USA with my family, and then immediately upon returning to Baltimore, started trying to hold it together as the interim chair of Graphic Design at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Not much got accomplished other than the necessities.
So, does that show up in what is in this collection? I don’t think so. This collection is so disparate and small. There is of course SOMETHING about copyrights… “Electronic Commerce and the Street Performer Protocol” gets into the idea that copyright as it stands will become progressively more complicated to enforce and monetize, and so we need some alternative ideas for how public works can be funded privately still!?
And there are other nice bits and bobs. How to cultivate indigenous micro-organisms, the visual lexicon of Emigre Magazine, Climate justice as always, thinking about low-carbon activities, and yeah…

Starting with MM038, in a couple weeks, a new shape will be part of these. I definitely have been trying harder to document WHAT I was doing and WHAT I was thinking about and so WHY are the random assortment of things there and maybe not actually so random. Anyway, hopefully this will take the form of more of a "letter" moving forward as well! Happy reading.
Enjoy what's here. I hope you enjoy being sent on to Are.na. It’s pretty much my favorite social network (is it a social network? who knows, but it sure is great). My email (or phone) is always open for response and conversation.
