“the dialectic requires you to say everything simultaneously”
— Frederic James
Welcome to the
Miscellaneous Materials Reading Club MM022. This is Season 3 issue 3.
Current CO2 PPM: August 23 : 414.91 ppm
We need to get back down to 350, or even 275ppm or so — pre human industry levels. The last time in the fossil record CO2 levels were this high, crocodile-like reptiles were roaming the Arctic Ocean.

This Twenty Second collection of Miscellaneous Materials is bit smaller of an assortment than
MM021. These pdfs and links and such were collected over March 2021. There are a number of links in the are.na — the dropbox links here contain epubs and PDFs you can immediately download and peruse. The 17 collected items this time around look at improving how we might read and converse, provide some opportunities to rethink designing and smart cities, and show how a “failure” can be a success.
“This is a book for readers of books. Even more particularly, it is for those whose main purpose in reading books is gain increased understanding.“
— Mortimer J. Adler
The toaster project is included in this collection. This time in March I must have been working through a few crises with students in my Advanced Design 2 class. Thwaites work on his toaster to me really shows how a successful project, especially in an academic or research setting, has way more to do with learning and understanding and offering FUTURE possibilities over whatever the immediate output/outcome is. So, if you're struggling with something right now, and need some help mentally freeing yourself from worrying about "failure" or "success" I'd start with
toaster_project-thomas_thwaites-complete-pdf.pdf
Thanks. Get to reading, and as always, let me know what you found interesting.
