New radio playout system now live
Hello everyone,
The radio playout system in the studio has now been switched over to PlayIt Live. From 6pm tonight the new system is used in the studio for live shows and automation, as well as for remote voice tracking and remote broadcasting.
Griff was the first to go live in the studio tonight, then Martin presented the first remote voice tracked show and Dave is going live remotely for the Northern Soul Floorfillers Show.
If you haven't been able to join the training sessions this week we have some videos and instructions for different types of shows - like remote voice tracking. I can also help if you have any questions or problems with the new system - please contact me by email, phone or through Facebook. If you would like show cover while you get set up with the new system that can be organised too.
All of the music and other files like IDs have been copied over and are available in the new system. We have a list of every UID from the old system and if you think something is missing please let me know and I will retrieve the file and copy it over.
There are no changes for shows using Dropbox to upload entire show segments or hours. These are: The Folk Show, Ronnie Walker's Oldies But Goodies Show, Captain Rockit's Time Machine, Swinging 60s, The Peter Rush 70's Hour, Country Rock, The American Connection Country Music Show and Captain Rockit's Classic Rock Time Capsule. This also applies to repeats which can be uploaded as normal.
However, as the Dropbox import is now near instant, if you present one of the above shows you could log in to PlayIt Live after uploading and verify that the show has correctly loaded before it goes out. If you would like to do this please let me know.
There are still some outstanding tasks, such as sending Now Playing information to Radioplayer, but this is being worked on over the weekend.
In the training on Thursday night some issues were raised with remote voice tracking. We have support for the software and are able to raise any queries with the developer and I hope will be able to resolve any teething troubles fairly quickly.
It may take some time to get used to the new system, but this changeover with the help of a grant means we can continue to have remote voice tracking and save thousands of pounds over the next few years. This is especially important as community, hospital and even recently launched digital and online stations close down every year. Some community radio stations don't have remote voice tracking at all, so we are fortunate to retain this functionality we have had since the first COVID-19 lockdown. Over the years we've needed to adjust to necessary changes, as presenters who used the former studio, SMS number, news service, Google email and more will recall.
Remote live broadcasting appears to be easier than ever and I hope we will be able to make good use of it for live shows and outside broadcasts to aid with advertising, sponsorship and fundraising which is still critically important for continued broadcasting.
Thank you for your patience and for joining the training this week. If you have any questions please comment here or contact me directly.
Kind regards,
James
