Birdsong presents: Barrel Boys and Ryan McMahon both on this coming week!
Hello lovelies! Just a reminder that we are presenting two shows this coming week:
Barrel Boys at the Commons Timberframe, June 18th
They are headed for the Cowichan Bluegrass Festival, but you get a chance to see them on Gabriola first!
This is bluegrass at its finest, with some incredible musicians on the roster (if you went to the recent Vinta show, then you have already met the fiddle player for this outfit).
Since forming in 2012, The Barrel Boys have become one of Canada’s most beloved acoustic string bands, known for their soaring harmonies, virtuosic musicianship, and unforgettable live shows. Blending bluegrass, old-time, country, and Americana influences with a rich catalogue of original songs, the band delivers an energetic performance centred around a single vocal mic and a deeply collaborative sound.
With appearances at festivals across Canada and a 2021 Canadian Folk Music Award nomination for Vocal Group of the Year, The Barrel Boys bring warmth, humour, and world-class musicianship to every stage.
This show will be outdoors at the Timberframe - so bring your lawn chair and layers. We hope by June 18th to be having warm evenings, but on the coast its always a bit iffy.
Tickets are $25 ($10 for kids under 13) and can be purchased at https://www.showpass.com/the-barrel-boys-gabriola-commons-timeberframe or bring cash to the concert. You do not need to RSVP to me for this show, but do mark on the Facebook event if you plan to attend (it encourages others). Show starts at 6:30.
Ryan McMahon, June 20th at Birdsong
Join us for an evening with Ryan McMahon — a true road-worn songwriter whose music moves easily between folk, roots, Americana, and contemporary rock. With sharp storytelling, rich songwriting, and a live show full of humour, honesty, and connection, Ryan has built a loyal following across Canada and beyond.
A longtime fixture on the Canadian music scene, Ryan has toured with Burton Cummings and Tom Cochrane, released nine full-length albums, and performed with artists ranging from Mother Mother and Odds to Lisa Loeb and Dan Navarro. He’s also one-third of acclaimed indie folk trio Lion Bear Fox, and his songs have appeared in television series including Californication and Chesapeake Shores.
Whether he’s making a room laugh, tearing it open emotionally, or getting everyone singing along, Ryan McMahon delivers the kind of live performance that stays with you long after the night ends.
This show is a regular Birdsong show so please RSVP, seats are by donation at the door - $25 suggested, and you get the address to the concert when you RSVP. Doors at 6:30, show at 7.
With all this going on, there is something in there for everyone!
Hope to see you at one or both of these events!
