Medorion Raises $6M in Funding
Medorion, a Tel Aviv, Israel-based developer of behavioral intelligence SaaS solutions for health insurers, completed a $6m funding round.
The round, which brought total funding to $9m, was led by 10D with participation from existing investors iAngels and TAU Ventures.
The company intends to use the funds to hire new people, boost the adoption of its behavioral intelligence SaaS platform among additional U.S. insurers, accelerate the development of new risk adjustment and member experience solutions, as well as expand its platform’s utilization beyond Medicare Advantage plans into other government markets.
Led by Asaf Kleinbort, co-founder and CEO, Medorion provides an AI-powered SaaS platform that analyzes claims and social determinants of health (SDOH) data to accurately pinpoint the underlying psychological, environmental, and economic drivers and barriers behind people’s health decisions. With Medorion, insurers can understand members’ needs and personalize and automate one-on-one member conversations at scale, facilitating proactive interactions that improve health delivery and financial outcomes.

MiNA Therapeutics Receives $15M Equity Investment from Eli Lilly and Company
MiNA Therapeutics Limited, a London, UK-based provider of small activating RNA therapeutics, received a $15m equity investment from Eli Lilly and Company.
The company intends to use the funds to advance and expand its internal pipeline of saRNA therapeutics, which is initially focused on immuno-oncology and genetic diseases.
Led by Robert Habib, CEO, MiNA Therapeutics is the leader in small activating RNA therapeutics. Harnessing innate mechanisms of gene activation, small activating RNA therapeutics are a new class of medicines that can restore or boost normal function in patients’ cells. The company is advancing a proprietary pipeline of new medicines with an initial focus on cancer and genetic diseases, while collaborating with pharmaceutical companies to apply its technology platform across a broad range of therapeutic areas.

Micropep, a Toulouse, France-based agricultural biotech company, raised €8.5M in Series A funding.
The round was led by Supernova Invest with participation from FMC Ventures, Sofinnova Partners and IRDI Capital Investissement. Romain Sautrau, Investment Director at Supernova Invest will join the Board of Directors and Sara Olson, Principal at FMC Ventures, along with Jean-Michel Petit, Investment Director at IRDI Capital Investissement will be joining as Observers to the Board.
The financing will be used to further develop proprietary discovery platform and progress pipeline targeting disease control and weed suppression.
Led by Thomas Laurent, Micropep provides an innovative discovery platform for the development of novel peptide-based biological products for agriculture. The company, spun out from Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and Toulouse University in 2016, a centre of excellence for AgriTech, has developed proprietary technology to precisely enhance plant traits without altering DNA by spraying “miPEPs”, a unique family of natural peptides regulating plant microRNAs. Micropep is positioned to enter and transform the EUR 47 billion-plus market for pesticides, initially targeting $28 billion herbicides and fungicides markets in Americas and Europe.

Viracoat Raises £2M in Funding
Viracoat, a UK-based company which makes in PPE mask that begins killing COVID-19 and other viruses on contact, raised £2M in funding.
The round was led by J.J. Richards & Sons Pty Ltd, an Australian, family owned and operated business that provides waste management service solutions throughout Australia and New Zealand.
The company intends to use the capital to fund the final stages of accreditation and conduct research activities.
A subsidiary of Viracorp Ltd, Viracoat was set up to develop and produce a PPE mask that begins killing COVID-19 and other viruses on contact. The new PPE product is undergoing final stages of accreditation testing in the biomedical facilities at Lancaster University. The product is planned be in production at scale by August 2021, through The MEL Group at Sudbury, Suffolk. International sales and distribution, which are prioritising hospital and healthcare workers, have been contracted and international pre-production orders are already being processed.

Backers included Ukrainian medtech investment fund Fison, Peter Chernyshov, the ex-CEO of the telecom KyivStar, the pharmaceutical company Farmak, and several angel investors from Ukraine, Belgium and the US.
Led by CEO Ilya Popov, ComeBack Mobility provides “Smart Crutch Tip” orthopedic devices that work together with an app, shared by a patient and a doctor. The technology allows electronic communication with the doctor and provides an overview of the patient’s walking recovery progress. Patients have crutch tips that work together with a smartphone app, where they have rehabilitation programs set by their doctors. The app helps patients to be regular with exercises and keeping the load on the injured leg under the set program while consistently receiving doctor’s recommendations. The medical professional has a web and/or mobile app that contains data about all his or her patients and makes it possible to remotely monitor how the patient loads the injured leg, addressing the patient’s concerns, and adapting the program to their needs.

BillionToOne, Inc., a Menlo Park, Calif.-based molecular diagnostics company, closed a $55m Series B funding round.
The round, announced in June 2021, was led by existing investor Hummingbird Ventures and incoming investor Four Rivers Group with participation from Neotribe Ventures, Norwest Venture Partners, Y Combinator, and Libertus Capital.
The company is using the funds to expand its the clinical lab, as well as its commercial team nationwide.

The company intends to use the funds to grow its team and accelerate development of its platform.
