Novaremed Secures US$50M
Novaremed AG, a Basel, Switzerland-based clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, announced, signed an agreement with GEM Global Yield LLC SCS (GEM), a Luxembourg-based private, alternative investment group for a US $50m capital commitment. Subject to the funding becoming available, the proceeds from this financing will be used to progress the clinical development of Novaremed’s lead product, NRD135S.E1, an investigational non-opioid small molecule drug for the treatment of painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy (PDPN).
Novaremed Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Novaremed AG was founded in 2008 in Israel and Novaremed AG was founded in 2017 in Switzerland. Novaremed aims to become a leader in the discovery and development of innovative treatment options for chronic pain and currently is developing NRD.E1.

Portuguese startup SWORD Health lands €20.7 million to boost growth of its virtual musculoskeletal care solution
Porto and New York-based healthtech company SWORD Health, one of the world’s fastest growing virtual musculoskeletal (MSK) care providers, has raised around €20.7 million Series B funding, bringing SWORD’s cumulative fundraising to around €41.5 million. The round was led by Todd Cozzens, Managing Partner at Transformation Capital and former healthcare investor at Sequoia Capital. Existing investors Khosla Ventures, Founders Fund, Green Innovations, Vesalius Biocapital and Faber also participated.
SWORD Health achieved significant commercial success in the last year with eight-fold revenue growth and a nearly five-fold increase in active users in 2020, making it one of the fastest growing providers of virtual musculoskeletal care delivery. The company, founded in 2015, will use the fresh funds to enhance product capabilities, expand industry partnerships and drive adoption across the benefits management ecosystem with employers, health plans and alliance partners.

RDS Closes €3M Seed Funding Round
RDS, a Strasbourg, France-based developed a connected strip that facilitates the monitoring of patients at risk of post-surgical complications, raised €3M seed funding.
Backers included private and institutional investors from Europe, the USA, and Asia. Almost €1m in non-dilutive public funding was also secured with the support of Bpifrance and Région Grand Est, accelerated by the selection of RDS in July 2020 as a winner of the prestigious national i-Lab competition. RDS also benefits from the support from the French Ministry of the Armed Forces, through the Defense Innovation Agency, as part of the call for tenders launched in March 2020 for innovative solutions to combat COVID-19.
The company will use the funds to continue to expand its development efforts.

Backers included Founders Fund, Backed, Presight Capital, CPT Capital, Sustainable Food Ventures, and angel investors.
The company intends to use the funds to develop a proof of concept of its production platform and build customer partnerships.
Led by Dr Max Jamilly, a synthetic biologist and formerly part of Legendairy Foods, and Ed Steele, a mathematician and former machine learning engineer at Thought Machine, Hoxton Farms grows purified animal fat in cultivators.
In the coming months, the startup will begin work at its new R&D lab in Hoxton, London, and continue to grow its talented team of biologists and mathematicians.

Paris-based moka.care raises €2.5 million to aid mental health in the workplace
Less than a year after its founding, Paris-based startup moka.care has raised €2.5 million to scale its platform for employee mental health.
The seed investment is one of the first from Singular, a French VC launched a few months ago by two senior partners from Alven (Jeremy Uzan and Raffi Kamber). Several entrepreneurs and business angels joined the round, as well.
In addition to improving the product, Moka.care plans to hire at least 15 people as it gears up to meet demand.

Vamstar, a London-based startup creating an AI-powered B2B marketplace for the healthcare industry, has raised a $1.7 million seed round led by btov, with participation from Antler and Begin Capital.
The company wants to transform sourcing and procurement in healthcare — and it seems to already be making quite a dent.
Vamstar claims its platform currently matches $2 trillion of healthcare contracts and tenders for pharmaceutical products, medical devices, healthcare services, and other technologies across public and private buyers like hospitals, universities and governments in over 70 countries.

Jack & Bry Raises £1.25M in Seed Funding
Jack & Bry, a London, UK-based producer of plant-based meat alternatives, secured £1.25m in seed funding
The round was led by SFC Capital, with participation from KM Capital, Rubix Ventures, and a number of high net worth private investors.
The company intends to use the funds to further product innovation and develop more jackfruit products that closely mimic the texture of meat using its proprietary manufacturing process.
