The Decision Before the Reaction
Reactions begin before we realize we are reacting.
Before you opened this email, an interpretation was already forming. Before you read AI's reply, you'd already decided what mattered. Before the meeting started, the room had already shifted.
We usually call this instinct, personality, leadership, strategy, stress, or experience. But underneath all of them, a filter is already shaping what things mean before conscious thought fully arrives.
What we call reaction is often a quiet refusal — a decision the mind delivered before the moment finished arriving.
Once you start noticing this, it appears everywhere. A room changes before anyone speaks when a leader walks into it. A conflict begins before anyone listens. An AI prompt carries the assumptions and beliefs of the person writing it.
We think we're responding to reality. We're responding to what the mind already decided mattered.

This unseen layer shapes far more of our lives than we realize. Not just personally, but organizationally, relationally, and technologically.
Many of the problems we try to solve downstream actually begin upstream from where we normally look. Not in our intentions or strategy, but in the seeing.
And you can see it differently.
That's why I wrote The Perception Miracle and created the Odyssey sessions.
When you begin to see this, you don't get better at managing reactions. You see there was nothing to manage — only a decision to notice. Different aim, different field.
Odyssey is a monthly gathering designed as a first-time introduction to this work — a chance to slow down enough to notice the filter before it dictates what you see and do.
The next session is Thursday, May 28.
If this resonates, you can request an invitation here: https://seedifferent.xyz/odyssey/
For those continuing past Odyssey, there's also The Perception Space — a monthly space to keep noticing the filter, together. Details here: https://www.seedifferent.xyz/
Or simply reply to this email with any questions.

P.S. If you'd like to bring this work directly to your team or organization, I also offer custom sessions tailored to your context. Just reply, and we can explore what would be most useful.
