See the unseen first.

“Today's ethic? See the unseen.” That was the comment from John Bell on my recent post.

John wrote a book called Do Less Better. Before that, he was CEO of Jacobs Suchard Canada. He didn't just write about leadership. He lived it at scale. But that isn't why his comment stopped me.

It stopped me because John has been quietly encouraging my work since 2010, when I published one of my first public posts on the Lead Change Group blog. I had no audience. No platform. No real sense yet of what I was actually trying to say. John saw something there anyway.

A celebrated CEO with a published book and an actual track record stopped to engage with a post written by someone who had none of those things. Fifteen years later, he's still doing it.

What John saw didn't need building. It just needed to be recognized.

This week, he commented on one of my LinkedIn posts with five words:

“Today's ethic? See the unseen.”

What John named in five words is what I've been trying to point at for more than a decade.

Before you adopt the tool, build the framework, ride the next wave, or write the AI strategy, something quieter is already shaping what happens next. It's the seeing underneath the doing. The perception underneath the plan. The unseen variable beneath every wave of transformation.

See the unseen first.

The voice in your head is what we reach for instead of seeing. The inherited story about leadership is what we reach for instead of seeing. The framework, the herd, the AI strategy — all of it is what the conditioned mind grabs to avoid the recognition that's already here.

Not because any of these are bad. But because they're downstream of a seeing that was never absent. Only refused.

John spent a career proving that less, done well, beats more done badly. The ethic he named takes that one layer deeper.

Less doing. More seeing. The seeing was already here.

If John's line landed for you the way it landed for me, there's a quiet door I built for exactly this moment.

It's called The Unseen Variable. Three short emails over three days. Just the seeing, named in three parts. The first email arrives within minutes after you sign up.

With gratitude to John,
