What TV stars should launch side hustles as true crime podcast hosts?
the true crime that's worth your time
We had a little fun yesterday with the NYT’s wide-eyed “golly gee” reporting on Dateline’s podcasting success. But, let’s give credit where credit is due: it did make us think about how some other TV standbys might benefit from the career shakeup that is launching and hosting a podcast. (Look, Keith Morrison was in his 70s when he launched his first podcast, so no one else out there has any excuse not to do this.)
Let’s make some big swings and see what sticks: Should ESPN's Monday Night Football team (that’s Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, with Eli and Peyton Manning as side dishes) lead up a podcast on criminal cases related to the NFL, from the concussion coverup to franchise-led domestic violence settlements to whatever else? What about the leads from a house flipping/sales show (Selling Sunset? The Property Brothers?) with a show on real-estate scams?
The options are endless, and I’m sure you have way better ideas than we do. Let’s hear them. — EB
