What true crime tips do you use in regular life?
the true crime that's worth your time
“This stuff,” said the guy from Crime Scene Clean Up as he held a spray bottle aloft, “is the only stuff that will kill the smell of mildew.” My ears perked up when I heard that — though I was watching the show because I am interested in crime scenes, not cleaning, mildew odors drive me nuts, and I found it comforting to know that there’s something out there that might manage it.
I’ve seen the product, called RMR-141 on several other crime scene cleaning shows since, typically to deal with situations that seemed pretty dire. I finally broke down and ordered if a bottle a couple of weeks ago, after someone left a car window open overnight and my back seats started growing mushrooms. (Not really, but that’s how it smelled.) Dude, the stuff actually worked! Bless you, crime scene cleaners, I’m sorry I didn’t listen to you sooner. (They also make a product called RMR-86 to get rid of mold stains, I haven’t tried it but it’s big on YouTube.)
Surely I’m not the only person who’s used up a tip gleaned from true crime in my regular, non-criminal life. You all are a clever bunch, and I’m sure you’ve picked up some ideas, too — and I’m not just talking about keeping things tidy, I’m thinking about any sort of life hacks! Let’s hear them. — EB
