What cases — and properties — from 2012 have stuck with us?
the true crime that's worth your time
We’re halfway through our 2012 flashback week, during which contrib Margaret Howie runs down some of the more intriguing true crime efforts from a decade ago. (Here’s Monday and Tuesday, if you missed them.)
Now it’s our turn: what are the cases, docs, and stories from 2012 that still live in your head? Th help you get started, here’s the “Top 12 Crime Stories Of 2012" according to HuffPost, which includes cases like Sandy Hook, one of three major U.S. mass shootings in December, alone. (Oh, for the days three mass shootings in a month were remarkable!) That’s also the year Trayvon Martin was gunned down by George Zimmerman, the Don’t Fuck With Cats case went down, and Drew Peterson AND Jerry Sandusky were convicted. It was quite a year!
In terms of properties, this Google search might help you remember what was on our screens in 2012, including Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory, Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God, and The Jeffrey Dahmer Files.
My reaction to many of these is “what, that was ten years ago?!?,” and maybe that’s yours too. But, after that, let’s hear it — what 2012 properties made for inside jokes you still make today? What cases are still messing up your brain? And which of these stories has aged poorly, and deserves a fresh look? You know what to do. — EB
