the true crime that's worth your time
Abducted In Plain Sight is getting a companion podcast. As Sarah noted in 2019, the Netflix documentary on the kidnapping of a teen named Jan Broberg by a friend of her family “took Netflix by storm.” Though some critics said that the doc was overstuffed and almost too wild a case to parse, but it remains one of those true-crime properties that people continue to hash over on forums and discussion boards long after its release.
Its post-release legs will be further tested by a new podcast from AIPS director Skye Borgman, whom Sarah interviewed last year. Called Obsessed With: Abducted In Plain Sight, it’s an outgrowth of comedy/crime podcast True Crime Obsessed, which is a…puzzling point of origin for content that purports to take a case and its victims seriously. But according to Deadline, the podcast will have a “more serious tone” than TCO, and “will take a deep dive into the documentary” including “never-heard-before audio from the film and new interviews with the subjects.” Via statement, Borgman says that the four-episode podcast “provides an opportunity to expand upon the documentary.” Expect it to drop on March 2. — EB
