I confess that I don’t recall the first true crime I ever consumed. It was probably The Stranger Beside Me, because there was a summer where everyone — kids AND moms — was reading it poolside at Crestview. But the first true crime that ever gave me a wiggins was the same case: The Deliberate Stranger, and specifically that cutaway shot to one of the victims’ hands sticking up out of the snow during a springtime melt. AUGH the gooseflesh just climbed up my back even typing this out.
