Summer-reading bingo, true-crime version
the true crime that's worth your time
Anyone else got a summer-reading bingo card going? I’ve got high hopes for knocking one off this year; get your own card from our esteemed colleague Elizabeth Held at What To Read If (and take in that delicious list of prizes — including a couple from Exhibit B.!).
But looking at Elizabeth’s set-up, I found myself wondering as I did last year what it would look like to make the card true-crime-only. Like, if I changed “play or other script” to “became a TV movie,” or “book in translation” to “international case that is NOT Jack the Ripper.” Elizabeth had a few tweaks too, like maybe “book you wouldn’t normally choose” is “white-collar/non-murder crime,” or “read a book out loud” becomes “fiction featuring a true-crime podcast.”
It’s eminently possible to bingo the card as-is using only true crime — but would you try it that way, or rewrite it in a t.c.-only version? Is the free-read square “major case” instead? Are you dragging Dateline into it like Elizabeth and I did? — SDB
