How difficult it is to get consensus on what is a “canonical” crime in the Zodiac “series”? …I shouldn’t joke, but at the same time, it’s not really a joke, at least not in the context of Peacock’s two-part Myth of the Zodiac Killer documentary.

For the purposes of our discussion, then, let’s agree that a/the Zodiac

• shot Betty Lou Jensen and David Faraday, killing them both;

• shot Darlene Ferrin and Mike Mageau, killing Ferrin;

• stabbed Bryan Hartnell and Cecelia Shepard, killing Shepard; and

• shot Paul Stine, killing him.
