If you were hoping for a not-overlong documentary about Martha Mitchell that would brief you on her whole deal, ergo deciding for you whether you should bother with Gaslit, The Martha Mitchell Effect is just the thing. (“The Martha Mitchell effect” as a term, coined in the late eighties, refers to the “misinterpretation of a person's justified belief as a delusion, often by a psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, or general practitioner.”) Directed by Anne Alvergue — who edited TMME as well as, among many other things, a feature doc on Roy Cohn I liked a lot — TMME is a well-paced and watchable 40 minutes that doesn’t overreach.
