Rush, the 1991 feature directed by Lili Fini Zanuck that renewed Jason Patric's crush-object status*, is based on a novel by Kim Wozencraft; the novel in turn is based on Wozencraft's experiences as undercover police in Texas shortly after Richard Nixon declared his War On Drugs. Like Patric's Jim Raynor and Jennifer Jason Leigh's Kristen Cates in the film, Wozencraft and her partner got addicted to drugs during their assignment, and like Raynor and Cates, the IRL UCs falsified evidence under pressure from their police chief.
