Please forgive the jumble of items in today’s issue. A lot of interesting things happened over the long holiday weekend and I wanted to get to most of them, but the throughline I try to maintain in each day’s missive is more of a dotted one today. An email about true crime talking head Jeanine Pirro could be real trouble for Fox News. As we’ve discussed a few times before, Pirro’s descent into conspiracy-theory bananacakes punditry is a head scratcher for those of us who consumed true crime long before it was prestige-y. The former Westchester County DA was a talking head on many a reenactment-heavy case-rehasher series (your Unsolved Mysteries, Forensic Files, etc.), and I actually recall her as a solid and reasonable explainer of why cases made it to prosecution, and why others never got that far.
