Greek Squad: The most memorable fraternity-related true crime
the true crime that's worth your time
What true-crime stories coming out of the Greek system have stuck with you? Not that there’s any shortage, unfortunately; any SVU episode involving pledges at Hudson University is inevitably based on a true tale of hazing; sexual harassment and/or assault; or a variation on a theme of Bundy’s final rampage in Florida.
Eve noted a book on hazing from 2018, as well as the recent cancellation of all frat parties at Indiana University due to an alleged rape at a Halloween party. The first one that comes to my mind is BJ Miller suing SAE, NJ Transit, and my eating club (Miller has really turned it around in the decades since, but his first semesters back on campus were…not the way you want to see trauma getting processed, and I’ll leave it at that). Mother Jones had a piece last week on the post-lockdown return of students to in-person learning on campuses meaning a spike in sexual-assault reports.
Whether it’s hazing, roofies, or just a bunch of college kids stealing each other’s Adderall and pinky rings, what are the frat/sorority true-crime stories you remember? — SDB
