Gaga And Gucci · Copcasts · NextDoor

Plus: Vanity Fair piles on The Irishman's alleged fallacies

the true crime that's worth your time

Lady Gaga will star in a dramatic adaption of the Maurizio Gucci homicide case. Yes, he’s one of those Guccis: Maurizio was the grandson of Guccio Gucci, who founded the fashion house. In 1993, Maurizio sold his shares in the family business for $170 million, making him -- needless to say -- a very wealthy man.

A little more than a year later he was shot to death by a hired hit man, an assassin prosecutors say was hired by Patrizia Reggiani, his ex-wife. She was convicted of the slaying in 1998, and was sentenced to 29 years in prison. She was released in 2016, after serving 18 years of that term.

The film adaptation, Deadline reports, will be helmed by Ridley Scott, and is based on The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed, a book from 2001 penned by veteran fashion journo Sara G. Forden. Gaga will be playing Reggiani, but no other casting has been announced. So I guess this is going to be one of those “English spoken with Italian accent” deals? Also, I guess this means we’ll get Gaga (birth name: Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta) channeling her roots. (Her Italian roots, not homicidal ones, you guys! Don’t sue me!) -- EB
