Five quickies
Burnout+vacation+sleep deprivation=Eve begs your indulgence
the true crime that's worth your time
I’m not the woman I used to be. Thirty years ago, as a college student, I routinely stayed up all night to write a paper. Now 52, when I get a freelance assignment I want, but must finish the night before a road trip, I still stay up late, but the next day is brutal; add to that an elderly neighbor who had a health crisis shortly after I sat down to write, and I’ve had to make my peace with the fact that today’s issue will not be one for the record books.
So please accept my apology at today’s skinny installment, as I am now running wildly late for the first leg in a cross-country road trip and would like to get to Reno before midnight. See you from the road! — EB
Tupac murder investigation leads police to Henderson home [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
[double checks dateline] Yes, this is a story from today, 2023, about the long-cold case. “A neighbor who lives on the same street as where the warrant was served Monday night witnessed police, who had emerged from patrol cars with guns drawn, yelling at the occupants of the house to come outside unarmed and with their hands up,” the paper reports, but few other details were available. Keep an eye on this one.
In Jillian Lauren's new book, Behold the Monster, she looks into the abyss in search of a killer's story. [CrimeReads]
Lauren’s book is about Samuel Little, and based on this excerpt it’s heavily first-person in tone. I don’t know how I feel about the style of the reporting, but am hopeful some of you will take a peek and weigh in.
Husband Behind ‘Dress That Broke the Internet’ Charged With Attempted Murder Of Wife [Mediaite]
It’s not as clearcut as the headline makes it sound: Keir Johnston’s mother-in-law wore what became known as “the dress” to his 2015 wedding. In a court appearance in Glasgow last week, he was accused of a years-long campaign of domestic violence against his wife (aka the daughter of the dress wearer), including claims of attempted murder.

True crime YouTuber slammed for charging to see autopsy photos of murdered boy, 11 [NY Post]
The Post has never been one for tasteful restraint, yet it still feels comfortable enough in its glass house to cast judgement on a person who sold autopsy photos via Patreon. To be clear, I am hardly defending this person’s business decision, but it’s not like the Post can talk, you know? Anyway, if you have your ad blocker on when you click through, I won’t be mad if you tap the “continue without supporting” link.
