Do you only take your crime "true"?
the true crime that's worth your time
I don’t read much fiction, period — but when I do, it’s almost always crime/mystery fiction with a recognizable IRL element (and/or by an author known to me; hi, Alex!). That said, when I need a “rest” from true-crime reading, crime fiction isn’t my first choice; that honor goes to oral histories of 20th-century movies, or memoirs by Brat Packers/’80s pop musicians.
What about you guys? Do you consider crime novels/series — or, if we’re talking genre AV offerings, cop shows or mystery thrillers — a good “break” from true crime? Do you tack completely away from true crime and settle in with a cooking show or a Hallmark movie? Or does it depend? — SDB
