Impeachment: American Crime Story is underway. I’ve seen the first six and reviewed the new season for Primetimer (and talked about it in depth in today’s Extra Hot Great). My take on the third iteration is more charitable than others I’ve seen, like this thread from my esteemed colleague Linda Holmes,

It needs an idea. This story is well-covered territory. I think the ideas emerge a few episodes in, but at the beginning, it seems like the episodes could be subbed with a text crawl, then get to the actual meat of it.

possibly because I kind of root for the show as a concept, a way “back into” stories we thought we knew — but based on the episodes I’ve seen so far, I agree with Linda, sort of. I don’t think it’s an idea Impeachment needs; I think it’s confidence in the idea or angles it does have. There’s a faint sense that the production doesn’t know the wonkier parts of the story cold, and therefore is struggling to send up what it doesn’t have down, so to speak. From my review:
