Actors we want on the case
the true crime that's worth your time
We’ve polled our readers before, many times, on how you’d “cast” a particular case or true-crime property. Today’s question is a bit different, though; instead of casting X case with Y actor or actors, let’s assign X actor/s to Y case. Put the performer first, in other words.
Here’s an example: in the last few days, we got casting news about the first season of American Sports Story. I don’t have a strong opinion on the choices per se — mostly I’d rather they’d picked a different topic in the first place — but my first sort of semi-formed thought was, “Channing Tatum should be in this.” And in fact he…shouldn’t; he’s not young enough for the main roles, and not quite old enough to play Belichick (maybe he could play Gronk if you put enough Vaseline on the lens?).
But I’d like to see Tatum do more genre stuff. He’s not brilliant, but he’s usually quite watchable and sympathetic; he did better than he got credit for in Foxcatcher, IMO, and he does have the kind of “period face” (see: Public Enemies, although that wig is not it) that suggests him for Depression-era roles.
I’ll save my 33 1/3 Short Films About Linda Fairstein Meg Ryan crackpottery for the comments, and turn it over to y’all. Who’s YOUR actor in search of a “career case”? - SDB
