The crime
In 1910, Belle Elmore, an American-born music-hall performer living in London, disappeared. Her husband, Dr. Hawley Harvey Crippen, offered a cascade of malleable and curious explanations regarding Belle’s whereabouts, of which Elmore’s colleagues and friends were immediately suspicious.
