Transforming Discipline - Benedict's Newsletter 004

Hey friend!

People with jobs often look longingly at those who are self-employed. “Must be nice!” they say. And to a large extent it is really nice!

But I wake up earlier now than I ever did with a job. I put more effort into how I dress for work than when I had a job. All of the systems the working world puts in place to help regulate the output of their employees crept their way back into my life. When you’re the only one responsible for your output, any tools you have for increasing your output become even more critical!

The real gain of working for yourself is that the discipline of these systems has an opportunity to become intrinsic. That’s what this week’s piece is about.

Read it here: Transforming Discipline

This is not to say that intrinsic discipline is impossible at a job! It’s just that intrinsic discipline is forced upon you if you want to survive independently.

I’d sum it up like this: intrinsic discipline is where deep engagement and meaning are found. Hmm maybe I should’ve titled the piece to reflect that 😆 Ah well maybe next week.

As always let me know what you think!
