Hello from the new year - Benedict's Newsletter 009
Happy new year! I hope you had a great holiday week. I thought things would be in full swing by now, but judging by the number of people in my coworking space people are still easing back into things. I leaned into being a degenerate this holiday season by staying up past my bedtime a bunch, and allowing myself to get some Trader Joe’s Just Mango dried mango.
Question: do you have a favorite holiday treat?
Before everyone gets too tired of years in review etc. I thought I’d throw mine out there. It was a year that was very exciting for me personally, but not super exciting professionally.

Professionally, 2019 was a good year. Nothing hugely exciting, but a slow churn of progress.
On the client side of things I (along with Daniel and Brennan) continued working on a cool augmented reality client project that we had started in 2018. I’m extremely proud of how it turned out, but unfortunately we can’t talk about it publicly yet.
On the product side of things it was an interesting year. Daniel and I have grouped all of this work under then banner of Arrows. Daniel wrote a detailed history for an informal advisor e-mail we’ve started sending out monthly. We’ve progressed further since then, and we’ll be talking about it more soon. Related: if you know anyone who works at a company with a customer success team I’d love to meet them!
I didn’t work on any games in 2019. Now that I think about it, this is probably the first year that’s been the case since 2009.
In that sense and a few others 2019 feels like a marked shift in a new direction.
Skimming my 2018 year in review it’s encouraging that I seemed to have sensed it’d be a year of building towards something new.
As with all new directions the sensation of starting over isn’t a purely pleasurable one. It’s about forming a new sense of momentum to propel you forward. That momentum can feel halting, but all things take time.
